After five years in our home, we finally have a plan for the backyard! When we moved in it was nicely landscaped – fresh sod, a small pond and waterfall, a cute bridge, lots of plants, and a patio with a pergola.
Over the years we learned how hot summers out here can get, and that dogs and water features don’t mix (if you want to keep a clean tidy yard).

Our plan
We decided putting in a pool and artificial turf would be the best solution to beating the 100+ degree summers and keeping green grass.
I love clean, modern, but somewhat classic design. With a high price tag I wanted to make sure I chose timeless and classic materials and landscaping that we wouldn’t regret in a few years. We are going with a simple rectangle shape with a spa and baja shelf for lounging.

Pool Material
- Concrete squared off coping
- Desert Sand stacked travertine
- District Bianco 6×6 waterline tile
- French Grey pebble
Furniture
- Chaise loungers with cushions
- 9 foot umbrella
- Concrete fire pit
- Dining and seating for 8-10 people (still haven’t decided what I want yet)
Landscaping
- Artificial turf
- Italian Cypress
- White iceberg roses
- Stone or mulch
As of today we have a huge hole in the ground, framing, and plumbing. Shotcrete coming soon. Keep following along! I’ll be posting progress through the completion (coming this July!)
